Police Academy Entrance Requirements

IMPERIAL VALLEY COLLEGE ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
In order to enter the Police Academy, you must first apply and register with Imperial Valley College (if you have not already).  Below is a quick link to the IVC registration website:

POLICE ACADEMY ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
After registering as a student with Imperial Valley College, you must fill out the online Police Academy Application when available prior to the start of the module, and submit all documents.  You will also need the following:

  • Peace officers must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Minimum age of 18 for admission; Minimum age of 21 to be hired with a department 
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid California Class C (class 3) driver's license (a copy will need to be attached to the online application)
  • Lack of felony (or certain misdemeanors) record or outstanding warrants. See California State POST Minimum Selections Standards for more information. 
  • Request for Live Scan Services Form. You will fill it out and take it with you to the Livescan operator of your choice (see a list of current active live scan agencies).  You will then get a Clearance Letter directly from the Department of Justice that will need to be uploaded to the online application. 
  • Cleared Medical Examination Form (will need to be attached to the online application)

PC 832 (AJ 141) ARREST & FIREARMS ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

If you want to see if a law enforcement career is for you, or if you need a refresher, then the entry-level (P.O.S.T.) Peace Officer Standards & Training PC 832, Arrest & Control (AJ 141), Course in the winter session is for you.  Completion of this course will provide you with a certificate from the state of California. Please note that applicants must pass a background screening.
