Correctional Academy Overview

The Correctional Academy (CSI 055) course is given every year in the Fall semester. This class is one semester-long, done paramilitary style, and is designed to provide entry-level students with the training necessary to enter into employment as correctional officers at County Jails and privately operated prisons.  This course exceeds the minimum mandated number of hours of training, as set forth by the California State Board of Corrections, and is designed for the current role of corrections in today's society. This course emphasizes the following: Facility operations, criminal law, ethics, inmate supervision and welfare, defensive tactics and techniques, and physical training.  Upon successful completion of this course, students are issued a certificate of completion.
